A little preparation goes a long way when it comes to tattoo appointments. The better you feel walking in, the better your session goes, and the better your tattoo heals. Here's what we recommend at Nowhere Tattoo.

Eat a Solid Meal Beforehand

This is the most important thing you can do. A full meal before your session stabilizes your blood sugar and helps your body handle the process. Skipping a meal is one of the most common reasons people feel lightheaded mid-session. Eat something substantial within a couple of hours of your appointment. We keep snacks and drinks at the studio — candy and sugary snacks are great for keeping energy up during longer sessions — but don't rely on that as your only fuel.

Stay Hydrated

Drink water consistently throughout the day. Well-hydrated skin takes ink better and the session generally goes more smoothly. Avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine beforehand, both dehydrate you and can increase sensitivity and bleeding.

Shower and Wear the Right Clothing

Come in clean and wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area being tattooed. Don't worry about shaving, we handle that at the studio to make sure it's done properly.

Arrive on Time

Showing up on time protects your session. Check parking ahead of time and give yourself a few extra minutes to settle in, ask questions, and review the design before we start. Artists will walk you through placement, details, and size; this is the time to ask questions, BEFORE the session.

You might be excited, but stay level-headed when it comes to your tattoo. Make sure everything is in order before the needle touches the skin, and double-check for spelling and details. Say something; we prefer immediate and open communication.

Sleep Well & Avoid These

Getting a good night's sleep before your appointment is crucial. Adequate rest helps to ensure that your body is in optimal condition, which can aid in pain management during the tattooing process. When you are well-rested, your body is better equipped to handle stress and discomfort, making the experience more pleasant overall.

Refrain from consuming alcohol and blood thinners for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Alcohol can thin the blood and increase the risk of excessive bleeding during the tattooing process, which may not only affect the quality of the tattoo but also complicate the healing process afterward.

Additionally, always consult a medical professional before making any changes to your medication or if you have concerns about the effects of tattooing on your health.

Bring Your ID

A valid ID is required for all clients. Please ensure you have it with your appointment. We do not provide tattoos to individuals under 18.

Manage Your Comfort

Bring headphones if music helps you relax. Let your artist know whether you prefer to chat or stay quiet — both are fine. If you need a break at any point, just say so.

Final Thoughts on Preparing for Your Appointment

Taking time to prepare properly for your appointment shows respect for your own well-being and the professional’s work. Arriving on time, staying hydrated, maintaining hygiene, and managing pain are all key steps that help everything go as planned. Remember, clear communication with the person you’re seeing can also make a big difference in how comfortable you feel. Happy tattooing!
